Penny Killow – Vice Chair of Governors

Reason for joining:

Moved into the area in 2018 wanting to be a part of the community and thought my business background in Risk Management might be a help to the school. Since I joined the governing body we have seen a lot of positive change and in December 2019 I was asked to become the Chair of Governors. 

Background:

 I work full-time and have skills in Project Management, People Management, IT, Data Security, Audit and Finance. My career has spanned Automotive Engineering, Petrochemicals and Banking & Finance.

Interests:

I have a husband, a grown-up son and a big friendly dog and spend much of my time working on our house or in the garden. I am passionate about improving the access to IT in school and helping pupils become more than users of technology.

Kim Welsh – Parent Governor

Reason for joining:

Having two young children, one currently at the juniors and one at the infants, I am passionate about working with the school to drive forward opportunities and make improvements for the children of Clowne.  Knowing lots of parents, I feel I have a strong vibe of how they are feeling and can promote the views of both parents and the school to achieve the best for all.

Background:

I have lived in Clowne my whole life and have always taken an interest and participated in community events.  I am an experienced primary school teacher working within a multi-academy trust. I am currently a phase leader responsible for Year 3 and Year 4 at Brimington Junior School.  I have taken on many roles whilst working at my school, giving me the skills to be a critical friend and share ideas with Clowne through my role as governor.

Interests:

Yoga, Theatre, Holidays, socialising with family and friends, and participating in family life.

Alison Fidler – Co-opted Governor 

Reason for joining:

As a parent of a young daughter myself, I am keen to have a positive impact on the opportunities the wider school community has.  It is imperative that there is a positive link between parents, staff and the governing body of the school, and I will work tirelessly to ensure that this is the case. As a teacher in a secondary school, I believe I can also bring valuable experience to both the pastoral and academic systems of the school.

Background:

I was raised in Clowne and following University, I worked in the financial services industry in London before I trained to teach Geography, a subject that I have always been immensely passionate about since my own schooling.  Having worked in schools in London and Rotherham, holding various roles of responsibility both curriculum and pastoral-based, I have taught Geography at Shirebrook Academy since 2018, where I have enjoyed the challenge of playing a transformative role within the department.

Interests:

I have two children and have been passionate to instil a love of travelling whenever time allows. Otherwise, I love socialising with my family and friends, walking, reading and going to the gym.

Rachel Morris-Jones - Staff Governor

Reason for joining:

As the Pupil Premium Lead, I feel it is vital for me to work alongside school and the Governors to implement the Pupil Premium Strategy to best support our disadvantaged pupils. Being a governor also allows me to deepen my understanding of the workings and leadership of a school.

Background:

I graduated from York St John University in 2013 and since then have worked at Clowne Junior School. I consider myself very lucky to work at such a wonderful school with such a brilliant community spirit. During my time here, I have held many different roles including PE Co-ordinator, Year Group Lead and now Pupil Premium Lead; something I feel very passionate about. I have experience in teaching various year groups. Planning and attending residential trips is something I also enjoy doing as it allows us to see the children thrive beyond the classroom.

Interests:

I enjoy travelling and seeing different cities around the world with my husband. We love to immerse ourselves in the culture and history of a place. I also enjoy dog walks, reading, shopping and socialising with my friends and family. Music is a big love in our house too!

Charlotte Newton-Wall – Headteacher

Reason for joining:

As Headteacher, it is vital that there is a good relationship between the school and the Governors.  It is my responsibility to ensure that the governors have a true picture of the school’s priorities so that they can challenge performance and make good strategic choices.

Background:

I moved to Clowne in 2016 and love living here.  Professionally, I came to Clowne Juniors for a new challenge.  My previous headship had been at a smaller Sheffield junior school which I moved from requires improvement to a good OFSTED category.  I will work tirelessly to ensure that Clowne Junior School pupils thrive, by receiving the best education and nurture possible.

Interests:

I am a passionate reader and love to go to gastro/Michelin-starred restaurants with my husband.

When I get the chance, I enjoy challenging myself with extreme events such as skydiving.  I have also completed the 3 peaks challenge.

Cathy Maltby - Co-opted Governor

Reason for joining:

I moved to Clowne in 2019 with my youngest 2 children which is when they both joined Clowne Junior School. The support my daughter received from staff while navigating social and emotional needs as she was undergoing a long diagnosis process for ADHD has been outstanding. I feel a strong sense of understanding and passion for staff, children and parents, allowing me to be supportive, firm and always fair for everyone in any situation.

Background:

I have worked in mental health as a therapist, support a domestic abuse recovery programme locally and assist with a local youth club for children aged 11-17 with additional needs.

Interests:

Family time, learning new skills, music, socialising with friends, breaks away.

Gina Ball - Co-opted Governor

Reason for joining:

I have 2 children, one of which currently attends Clowne Junior School and my youngest will start nursery within the next year and will obviously follow the same journey as our daughter. I am really excited and privileged to have been presented such an opportunity to work alongside the school and support all potential opportunities that help it continue to grow and improve. I would love to be able to give something back to Clowne Juniors, not only for my own children but to benefit all pupils now and going forward. Helping them to thrive, enjoy great opportunities throughout their and reaching their full potential. I also have a strong personal interest in SEN, as my daughter has ADHD, and the support she and ourselves have received from Clowne Juniors throughout her school journey has meant a great deal to our family.

I have two children one currently at the juniors and the other is at secondary.  Both thoroughly enjoyed coming to school and I have loved watching them thrive through experiences offered to them whist here.  I feel I can offer a positive parent perspective.
